Idioms: Catch-22

Da noi si dice: ma è nato prima o l'uovo o la gallina? 

È la tipica situazione in cui, sospeso in un vicolo cieco, non sai dove sbattere prima la testa! 

L'esempio più tipico che si può fare ai giorni nostri, purtroppo, è sul mondo del lavoro.

Studi. Ti laurei. Sei pronto a conquistare il mondo. MA...

inizi a cercare lavoro e dopo aver trascorso 24h leggendo gli annunci delle varie aziende vedi che:

Se non hai una pluriennale esperienza non puoi avere un lavoro. 

Ma se non inizi ad avere un lavoro non puoi avere una pluriennale esperienza.

Ecco questa è la tipica situazione in cui qui in Inghilterra ti sentiresti dire:

It's a real CATCH-22 to get a job! 

L'espressione deriva dal libro di Joseph Heller, intitolato appunto CATCH 22

Per chi fosse interessato dal libro è stato tratto anche un film dallo stesso titolo  CATCH-22

Qui un estratto dal libro:

"There was only one catch and that was Catch-22,  which specified thata concern for one's safety in the face of dangers that were real andimmediate was the  process of a rational
mind.  Orr was crazy andcould be grounded. All he had to do was ask;and as soon as he did,he would no longer be crazy and would have to fly more missions. Orrwould be crazy to fly more missions and sane 
if he didn't, but if hewas sane he had to fly them. If he flew them he was crazy and didn'thave to; but if he didn't want to he was saneand had to. Yossarianwas moved very deeply by the absolute 
simplicity of this clause of 
Catch-22 and let out a respectful whistle.

"That's some catch, that Catch-22," he observed.
